Racing Rules (Updated 07/01/07)

This page outlines the basic rules and classes for racing at BYRON RC. The race director will ensure that all rules are adhered to and has final decision. Rules subject to change.  

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE RUN AT  BYRON R.C.: 

ONROAD CLASSES:

1/18 MICRO STOCK TOURING

1/18 MICRO MODIFIED TOURING

1/18 "SCALPEL" CLASS

1/10 MINI SPORTS TOURING CLASS 

OFFROAD CLASSES: 

1/18 2WD and 4WD OPEN OFFROAD

1/18 MICRO STOCK TOURING

1/18th scale Micro Touring on road micro vehicle such as the  XRAY M18 or  HPI Micro RS4 and their variants that are created with aftermarket chassis parts.  Other vehicles may be approved as they become available.

 XRAY, HPI, or Duratrax cars must use one of the following pre-approved 180 size stock motors:

     HPI 180 Stock Motor  #1060

    XRAY 180 Stock Motor  #9160

    Orion Elite 180 Stock Motor # 20901   ***discontinued  phasing out Dec 31/2007

Motors may not be opened or altered in any way. Original label must be retained. 

May use any commercially available upgrade or aftermarket chassis and or suspension items and parts.
May NOT use “home-made” , “custom-made” or  stock and aftermarket parts that have been altered and are not available to other drivers.  

MINIMUM RIDE HEIGHT  >= 2mm

BATTERIES:

 Maximum of 5 Cells 2/3A NiMH or NiCD. Micro packs only.

1/18 MODIFIED MICRO TOURING 

1/18th scale Micro Touring on road micro vehicle such as the XRAY M18 or  HPI Micro RS4 and their variants that are created with aftermarket chassis parts.  Other vehicles may be approved as they become available.

Batteries:

Maximum One  5 Cell  2/3 A  Micro Pack.

Lithium Polymer/Ion Batteries NOT approved.  

May use any commercially available upgrade or aftermarket chassis and or suspension items and parts.

This is an OPEN class and custom modifications to chassis are allowed.

Any 280 Micro Motor or 300/370 size "Sealed Can" Micro motor

MINIMUM RIDE HEIGHT  >= 2mm

1/18 "SCALPEL" CLASS

1/18th scale 2WD Micro PAN CAR vehicle by ROBITRONICS and their variants that are created with aftermarket chassis parts.  

Must use Robitronics 300 Sized Stock Motor #2053.

Motors may not be opened or altered in any way. Original label must be retained. 

May use any commercially available upgrade or aftermarket chassis and or suspension items and parts.
May NOT use “home-made” , “custom-made” or  stock and aftermarket parts that have been altered and are not available to other drivers.  

MINIMUM RIDE HEIGHT  >= 2mm

BATTERIES:

 Maximum of  4 ( FOUR)  Cells 2/3A NiMH or NiCD. Micro packs only.

1/10 MINI SPORTS TOURING CLASS

Any Tamiya "M" chassis car (M01, M02, M02-L, M03, MO3M, M04L, MO4M) may be used.

TCS SERIES RULES will be in effect.  They may be obtained at the following link:

Exceptions/Additions:

1)Any mass produced Brand of 2400Mah (or Smaller)  NICD Stick Pack May be used. No "Home-Made" Packs.

2)No Traction Compounds may be applied to tires at any time. Please use Approved tire Cleaning solutions only.

OFFROAD CLASSES

 2WD and 4WD OPEN OFFROAD  1/18 SCALE MICRO

Any 1/18th scale 2WD or 4WD 1/18 micro OFFROAD vehicle.

May use any Micro motor. Brushed or Brushless.

Batteries:

Maximum One 7.2v  6 Cell  2/3 A  Micro Pack

or One 7.4 2S Lithium Polymer Pack

Lithium Ion Batteries NOT allowed  

MINIMUM RIDE HEIGHT  >= 4mm

Aluminum or metal skid plates or chassis parts that may contact and damage racing surface is prohibited.

Offroad vehicles must be clean and free of any mud, dirt or outside debris.

 GENERAL RULES ALL CLASSES - Tires, Bodies etc...

No Traction Compounds may be applied to tires at any time. Please use Approved tire Cleaning solutions only.    

Any Rubber Or FOAM type Micro tires that are designed for that class may be used. 

Offroad Class Tires should be soft small pin type or on-road type tires. Tires with large studs prohibited.

Any manufactured 1/18th Scale Micro Body May be used, either 140mm or 150mm for onroad cars.

Body type can be a touring, classic, racing car, truck or lemans type body that was designed specifically for that model.  Bodies must be cut on the cut lines and not beyond.

Bodies must have a front and rear windshield

Side windows may be cut out, but not beyond lines.

Rear body Wing is optional but must be a wing that is supplied with that body or one designed for 1/18 scale Micro cars only such as HPI Micro Wing.

Bodies must not have any sharp edges or cracks that can injure should it require marshalling.

Bodies must be mounted high enough that they will not drag or scrape on racing surface.   >=2mm

Offroad classes May use 1/18 scale buggy,  ST or MT style bodies.

 

BEHAVIOR AND ETIQUETTE

Racers will sign in promptly and must be prepared to race as soon as their scheduled heats are called. 

After their race, Racers must be available immediately for marshalling duties or provide a substitute marshal.

Foul language or any other type of abuse  is not permitted.

Radios must not be turned on unless scheduled to race or a clip is placed on Frequency Board during practice.  

Maximum of 10 cars may practice at one time. Limit your practice time to 5 minute intervals.

Selling or Soliciting to sell hobby or related products on site (whether new or used) without prior approval  is prohibited.
